Pre-Employment Medicals
Hiring the right candidate means ensuring they’re not only skilled but physically capable of meeting the demands of the job.
Mercer Safety’s Pre-Employment Medicals (also called Pre-Employment Physicals) are designed as a comprehensive screening tool to confirm that applicants can safely perform the essential functions of their role.
These assessments protect both the employer and the employee. For employers, they serve as an effective risk management tool, reducing the likelihood of workplace injuries, lost time, and costly claims. For employees, they provide education and awareness about personal health factors, empowering them to protect themselves against potential work-related injuries.
Our Occupational Health Nurses and Nurse Practitioners bring years of expertise in assessing job-specific requirements, physical demands and industry safety concerns. Each assessment is tailored to the role the candidate is being considered for, ensuring relevance and accuracy.
For organizations hiring outside their local area, Mercer Safety also offers access to a national network of clinics to accommodate out-of-town applicants.
A typical Pre-Employment Medical includes:
Height, weight and body mass index (BMI)

Full musculoskeletal examination with range-of-motion testing
Central nervous system examination
Abdominal examination (including hernia screening)
Urinalysis (screening for diabetes, kidney, or bladder disorders)
