Hearing Conservation Programs

A Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) is a proactive approach to preventing occupational hearing loss in workplaces where noise exposure poses a risk. Prolonged exposure to high noise levels can lead to permanent hearing damage, reduced communication and lower productivity—all of which can be prevented with the right program in place.

At Mercer Safety, we help employers design and implement Hearing Conservation Programs that meet CSA and provincial OH&S requirements.

Our specialists conduct noise exposure assessments to measure sound levels across work areas, identify where exposure exceeds the 85 dBA (8-hour time-weighted average) threshold and determine where controls or hearing protection are needed.

A comprehensive Hearing Conservation Program includes:

  • Noise exposure assessment to identify hazardous noise levels

  • Engineering and administrative controls to reduce exposure

  • Provision of hearing protection suited to the task and environment

  • Audiometric testing to establish baselines and monitor changes in hearing

  • Training and education to promote safe hearing practices

By implementing a customized HCP, Mercer Safety helps employers protect workers’ hearing, maintain compliance and support long-term health and productivity in the workplace.
