Radon Measurements & Mitigation Consulting

Long-term exposure to elevated radon concentrations increases the risk of lung cancer, making testing and mitigation essential for both homes and workplaces.

Mercer Safety provides professional radon measurement and consulting services to help identify and manage radon risks.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas produced by the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock. It is invisible, odourless and tasteless, meaning it can only be detected through specialized testing. Radon can enter buildings through cracks in foundations, gaps around pipes and other openings, where it can accumulate to unsafe levels.

Following Health Canada’s recommendations, we perform long-term testing (a minimum of three months) during the heating season to ensure accurate results. The Canadian guideline for radon concentration is 200 Bq/m³; if testing indicates higher levels, our consultants will recommend effective mitigation strategies.

Common testing methods include:

  • Alpha-track detectors (passive, long-term testing)

  • Continuous radon monitors (active, real-time measurements)

  • Well water radon testing, where applicable

If elevated levels are detected, Mercer Safety provides expert guidance on mitigation techniques such as improved ventilation, sub-slab depressurization and sealing of entry points to help you reduce exposure and maintain a safe, healthy environment.
